27 Jul The opening of the Olympic Games in Paris!! (2024)
So, , , I think Turtle is excited because the Olympics are beginning today!!
It is so interesting to read news about this event in Paris in 2024.
Roy and HG are broadcasting from Paris, which is something that I may be able to listen to!! (I still don’t have a television 🙂 )
I liked listening to Roy and HG for sporting events before, , , and I have a reminder set for 11 am tomorrow 🙂 Might be fun!
Political considerations
Interestingly, the Olympic committee have always been forthcoming in boycotting or banning countries for “reasons such as war, doping, political stances or violations of IOC rules.”
This year they have banned Russia and Belarus for their aggression towards Ukraine. They did not ban Israel, however, it sounds like the crowd has been giving them a very frosty reception.
The opening ceremony
I was amazed to learn that the opening ceremony cost $1.5 billion (is that Euros or US dollars??)
It seems like a LOT of money, , , but who am I to judge. Perhaps they would have got some kind of return on their investment, , , if that is even important, or improved their profile amongst the international community.
I remember (being incredibly unwell) when the Sydney Olympics were on in 2000. It seemed that it was the start of the problem that city had with population growth. I call it a problem, because people living there, have less and less places available to live. . . I think the Sydney Olympics was successful and it raised the profile of Sydney in the international community. So people flocked there, so I believe.
Maybe the same thing will happen to Paris. . . not that it probably needs the extra population, and same with the Gold Coast in 2032, so I believe. . . These places don’t have the infrastructure for so much population growth. Maybe we should have the Olympics somewhere like Wagga, or Dubbo, , , hehe, , , in some regional centre, that would enjoy a boost to its population (and that is DEBATEABLE!)
In any case, back to this discussion of the games. . . Sounds like the Opening Ceremony was somewhat underwhelming! (Although, , , I am not so sure. . . both my Mum and two of my artistic neighbours said that it was wonderful!!) Mixed reviews, perhaps. The comment about Lady Gaga defecating on the French flag was particularly OUTRAGEOUS! Hehe.
One angry viewer wrote: “Gaga’s Olympics performance is the worst I’ve seen since Britney’s MTV show in 2007.
“It was the equivalent of defecating on French flag. She insulted America, insulted France, and has no shame whatsoever.”
The games have begun!!
It is quite exciting actually. I am not sure which sports I would like to watch, , , but I would be interested in seeing the skateboarding, , , hehe, , , apparently that is an Olympic Sport. . . What else??
It looks like I am going to need a television if I want to watch. . . (maybe)) one of my friends said that I could watch it online on 9NOW, , , I have caught snippets of it when I am at my corner store, or on social media. . .
It is a strange feeling to have missed most of it.
I don’t hate television (sometimes, or to some extent). . . I just need a reminder to watch it. . . or someone in my life that watches it. Or, , , (I am not sure).
About 30 seconds (lol)
I just tuned in to 9Now to see some highlights, , , and I lasted about 30 seconds, haha. . I just get so overwhelmed by the commentators screaming into the screen. . . Is that bad??
Are we incompatible because I don’t like watching sport, , , ???
Is there some way of catching up on what has happened during the past 10 days without the sensory overload??
I did see a few minutes of a triathlon while I was getting a coffee from my corner store this afternoon. It was exciting!!
If I had a television, maybe I would leave it on ABC News like they do at my corner store. . . My Mum says that when she listens to Radio National all day she gets quite depresssed and stressed out, , , by hearing all the news, , ,
I feel bad, , , because I get so overwhelmed by the sensory experience of people screaming and loud noises and lights on the television. . .
Do they have a low-sensory version of the Olympics, , , haha. . . I really do need a television I think. . . I think I need to get involved.
