comfort food when sick or scared

I guess my reticence where promoting plant protein is concerned is borne out of the fact that from personal experience, when we are ill, or poor, or incredibly stressed out, then eating meat becomes an incredibly important element of comfort for those of us who have had childhoods that included eating meat.

When I was dreaming up my idea of promoting plant protein, I knew that eating more plant protein is an important contribution to the potential for humans to survive collapse or The Great Simplification. And then all my wheels came off and I realised that eating meat can be an incredibly important remedy, psychologically.

Maybe I am just a weakling. All the vegans out there, who have such strong boundaries do not eat meat when they are sick, or poor, or scared. They choose vegan food time after time based on their convictions, and it is laudable, I think.

Human psychology

We are animals though, and when the world does become forcibly simpler, we are likely to be under duress. Perhaps we will rise to the occasion. We are very resilient after all. And perhaps we will behave in ways responsive to the pressures on us.

It is incredibly hard to predict what we will do, or what is going to happen, and when.

Given that the more we eat vegetables, the more we like vegetables, maybe my plant protein promotion dreams could contribute to a softening of the blow.

There is certainly some reason why I keep coming back to this idea. So, maybe this time, I should try to push it a little bit further, to see if it is interesting to anyone else.
