21 Sep Healing Hospital food
Good morning.
I just ate breakfast.
The food in this in-patient unit is pretty sophisticated in terms of their food service.
We have a dietician who creates meals for each individual person based on their health status.
And when I need nicotine, I have to go to the nurses station and ask for it. 30 minute gap (at a minimum).
Dad bought me a collection of chocolate, which I am eating gradually, by leaving them in the nurses station and taking a few, each evening, so that I don’t gorge myself on the whole lot.
Imagine having a boyfriend, or a neighbour, who you could go to, to ask for regular doses of chocolate and nicotine?!?
In any case the food
I don’t feel so good to be honest.
The gave me olanzapine when I came in, which is not my favourite. And then lexapro, which is some kind of antidepressant.
Then they spoke with my psychiatrist, and have put me back on my regular meds (except the generic mirtazapine), so I feel somewhat better.
I also have diazepam, or valium three times daily, thiamine in the morning, as well as another medication, which I am not going to mention, because it will make me cry (OR EVEN GET ANGRY!!) – not at anyone here, but, at Anthony.
Wash out
I was still washing out the PRN olanzapine and lexapro yesterday. I couldn’t stop eating! That is what Xyprexa (olanzapine) does to you, but perhaps I would let them give it to me again, if my psychiatrist Rob was able to talk to them.
So, today is going to be a mush (hehe) better day!
Food
The food is prepared by a dietician, so they obviously have a lot of knowledge in this area. Not as much protein for breakfast as I would like, but not too high in sugar (in some ways) – they give us orange juice – perhaps for the vitamin C.
If I eat some yoghurt beforehand, then it will line my stomach and the carbohydrates will trickle slowly into my bloodstream.
But, I still feel like C.R.A.P.
The valium makes me drowsy and like I want to sleep. I am not sure what that is doing, but it seems to help with the pain of washing out those other medications, and the alcohol withdrawal, which I am pretty much used to by now. (??!!)
Feedback?
There was a QR code, but I couldn’t see anywhere to tell them likes or dislikes, or even to list the meals that I would like.
I guess it is a process. And they do have this accessible kitchen, filled with single serve Bega Cheese packets, lots of yoghurt and fruit. We can also sometimes have toast and sandwiches if we are still hungry.
And dinner/lunch is meat and vegetables which does the job well.
I am so sleepy, , , I need some fresh air.
See you later!!
