03 Jul Cafe Jour and Store
I would be proud of this meal too, if I had made it. It was amazing!
This morning, I was feeling poorly, which is par for the course at this current time. I was strung out with stress and needed to get out and stretch my legs and get some fresh air, and my ‘innner voice’ suggested that I get QUICHE for lunch.
to be honest, a place to go to GET QUICHE was not immediately obvious to me. I did consider walking to the patisserie and bakery at Clifton Hill but it felt like a long trek for a brief working lunch. In the end i GOOGLED ‘quiche Collingwood’ and the top local result was Jour Cafe and Store on Keele Street.
This seemed liek the perfect adventure for a spot of lunch and I was excited because I had never really been there before (quite incredible really, but there ARE a lot of places to eat in my neck of the woods). I got out into the sunshine and walked along Keele Street and found myself in a warm, whitewashed French bakery style cafe and store.
A well stocked bakery display cabinet
The first thing that caught my eye were the trout, dill and creme fraiche pastries, but there were also some zucchini feta and other veggie breakfast bites too. When I asked the waiter, he said that the trout pastries were like ‘quiches’ and so I thought that would be perfect. $8 – what a bargain! I asked if they could do a side salad, which they were happy to do, and so I had the most beautiful and delicious lunch for only $13, which is very reasonable for a working lunch.
The side salad itself reminded me of authentic French cuisine with lots of lovely olive oil, toasted seeds and also roasted beetroot on top, wich gave so much flavour. The trout breakfast pastry was a taste sensation. It was served cold due to the fish, but that didn’t matter. It was so yummy. A little ‘salty’ perhaps, but that seemed appropriate for the dish that it was.
Menu
They have more substantial items on their mensssu . . . Adn their display cabinet is filled with all sorts of lovely treats. Someone bought the last pain au chocolat, before I finished my meal and paid.
It gave me the sustenance I needed to get back into my work for this afternoon, and so, I am grateful for Jour cafe and store and will definitely go back again soon!
